Tips for Parade of Homes Atendees

Written by Erica Brown

There’s nothing like a brand new home and the best way to experience what local builders are offering is the Builders Association of North Central Florida Parade of Homes™. The Spring 2015 Parade features 31 homes in 18 communities in Alachua County. The Parade is a perfect way for prospective homebuyers to compare locations, features and builders.

BELOW ARE SOME TIPS FOR NAVIGATING THE PARADE OF HOMES:
1. PLAN AHEAD. Several days before you go on your home tour, plan your route. Look at the map and directions on the website. Remember: the homes are open on Parade days from 12 Noon – 6 p.m. If you have younger children, pack lunches and water bottles or plan ahead to enjoy some restaurants along the way. Finally, leave with a full tank of gas…or better yet invite friends and family to carpool.

2. PARKING. Parking areas will be designated at each of the parade neighborhoods. Look for the directional and parking signs.

3. TAKE NOTES. Bring a pen and notepad to take notes. Parade homes have the latest in new home products and technology.

4. PHOTOS. Most builders will have literature available which includes photos, features, information, floorplan, etc. Please ask the builder or their representative if taking pictures are allowed in their home.

5. DRESS COMFORTABLY. Wear comfortable shoes as well.

6. KNOW THE PARADE TIMES. You don’t have to see all the homes in one day or weekend. The Parade of Homes™ is open two weekends – Saturday & Sunday, April 11-12 and April 18-19 from 12p.m. to 6pm.

7. HAVE FUN! Make it a family affair! Get ideas for your own home or start making plans to build your new home. Parade builders are experts in their field and can answer questions you may have. Take advantage of the ideas they have to offer.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER WHEN NEW HOME SHOPPING DURING THE PARADE:

IS THERE AN AREA OF TOWN THAT APPEALS TO YOU MOST?
If so, plan your Parade route accordingly using the Parade map included in the guide.

IS BUDGET A PRIMARY CONCERN?
Don’t pass up a chance to visit a home that may be on the higher end of your price range. Not only can you get ideas, you may find that with the current low interest rates you can afford more house than you thought.

IS THERE A PARTICULAR FEATURE YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
Need a certain size home, number of bedrooms or bathrooms? Review the floorplans and descriptions of the homes and put those at the top of your list when planning the Parade visits. However, plan to visit all homes. The Parade offers a wide variety of housing styles and living choices.

Keep an eye out for the Features Award in each Parade home! A panel of judges will award a top feature in each home.
