Farmhouse charm is reborn in Greater Gainesville in this Virginia-inspired home built by one of Cottage Gardens’ clients here in the heart of Greater Gainesville. The layout and materials of an historic Virginia farmhouse may be simple and utilitarian, but it also manifests an awareness of symmetry and Classical proportions. Cottage Gardens was fortunate enough to be part of the creation of this home retreat, further developing the owner’s farmhouse aesthetics via the surrounding gardens.
Farmhouse details are present throughout the whole exterior of our featured home:
Flaired Front Steps
Brick steps combine with stone accents for farmhouse charm.
Door with a view
The oversized door looks directly onto a splashing stone fountain. Its glass panes invite the outdoors in.
Birches & Boxwoods
Traditional plants mingle with heirloom perennials for a cottage garden feel, with something in bloom in every season.
Custom Water Fountain
A custom stone fountain adds historic character to the circular front garden leading to the home, adding additional farmhouse elements such as a self-feeding water planter on top.
The circular pattern from the front garden is repeated with flagstone around a copper bird bath, further reinforcing the architectural elements of the home’s design.
Walkway with Planters
The main residence connects to the garage via a covered walkway lined with oversized hanging planters adorned with seasonal flowers, adding beauty at eye-level.
