Step-By-Step guide to a Sumptuous Summer Centerpiece:
As we turn our thoughts to outdoor entertaining, we naturally gravitate to clean, crisp, fresh designs for the summer season. Visions of cool drinks (and light, seasonal fare) fill our minds and guide our menu selections. In the same vein, our fresh florals must follow suit. When entertaining outdoors, light and bright are key to design. Read on for simple step-by-step instructions on how to create a festive, fruit- and floral-filled centerpiece that will be perfect for your next outdoor occasion!
Customize a clear, glass container by adding an accent. We used a faux, tropical leaf wrap.
Build your base by mounding fresh hydrangeas. We used a mixture of traditional white hydrangeas as well as antique hydrangeas. This mound will now act as your “grid” and provide a base for all of your insertions.
Add all of your smaller flora to give the arrangement detail and dimension. Shown in this arrangement are spray roses, single full roses and small daisies.
Insert fresh fruit for interest. We used specialty summer squash and seedless grapes. When working with fruit, it’s often helpful to stake the fruit in the arrangement using a small bamboo skewer.
To ensure the arrangement’s longevity, replace the water and mist the hydrangea blossoms with fresh water every two days. Store the arrangement at room temperature to enjoy it for five to seven days.
